Getting Caught Up...

I've gotten a bit behind on my posting of pictures and stories and I offer my profound apologies to my family and friends that like to keep tabs on my activity. Here are a few pictures to give you a taste of what has been happening with me and my family, but many more pictures will be found on my flickr account and then you can look at specific pictures by selecting one of the sets along the right side of the screen.

Break Heart Ranch

On September 29th, my friend Dani and I went to Break Heart Ranch (http://www.breakheartranch.com). It's located east of Minden; actually closer to Norman, NE. We visited the ranch and were introduced to all the horses and were able to watch how they train and nurse the horses back to health. It was very interesting and the owners, John and Val, were extremely nice people. They made Dani and I feel as if we were at home even though we had just met that afternoon. Actually, we spent about 4 1/2 hours there and really didn't want to leave except for the fact that it was getting close to 9:00 PM. Below are some pictures from our visit:

Most of these horses were saved from being sent to slaughter houses. Each had unique stories that made you want to adopt each and every one. Or, maybe that was just me...
Yeah, it was really windy.

This is John. He has a big heart and was fun to talk with. You can tell that he loves the horses and the horses love him.

This is a BEAUTIFUL Black Arabian Stallion. They saved this horse from being sent to the glue factory. I can't see how such a gorgeous animal could ever have that happen to them. I stood outside the fence and stared with amazement as he ran past. Dani offered me a tissue saying I needed to wipe the drool off my face.

Here Val is working with the stallion trying to get him calmed down so he can be put into a different pen. She has been doing this ever since she was a little girl. The horses have a lot of trust in her and vice-versa.

They have a hired man named Casey. He's about my age and rides in the rodeo. In this picture he was trying to ride a horse bareback that hadn't been ridden for over 2 years. He made it about 10 feet and then the horse took over and Casey ended up in the dirt. This is an excellent picture and a copy has been given to John and Val.
