Getting Caught Up...

I've gotten a bit behind on my posting of pictures and stories and I offer my profound apologies to my family and friends that like to keep tabs on my activity. Here are a few pictures to give you a taste of what has been happening with me and my family, but many more pictures will be found on my flickr account and then you can look at specific pictures by selecting one of the sets along the right side of the screen.

Sunday Road Trip

This morning, Sunday, my friend Dani and I just up and decided that we were going to go on a road trip. Dani said she had never been to Ft. Kearny so that was going to be our first destination. Unfortunately, when we arrived the buildings were all closed so we decided that this place could wait until another time. Instead, since we were so close anyway, we thought we would spend our day at Pioneer Village in Minden. Below are some of our pictures from our visit:

Dani's Sunday chauffeur

This is an old-fashioned street car. I thought I'd like to try the driver's seat on for size.

This is one of a set of two mirrors. This mirror has had presidents (i.e. Lincoln, Truman, T. Roosevelt, Eisenhower, etc.) and war generals (i.e. Grant, Pershing, etc.) walk in front of it. Now, the infamous Ashley M. Lawton has made her presence known to this mirror. The George Washington portrait is the original painting that is shown in all the history books. This is quite the picture.

Outside of the General Store was a tree stump with a checker board. I used the timer on the camera and set it on the front step to snap a photo of me and Dani playing a game of checkers. She beat me really bad; I'm a little rusty at this game.

This is the old Grom school house that shut down in 1938. The books on the shelves, according the plaque, have not been touched since they were placed on the shelves after the 1938 school year. Dani and I looked at some of the books and realized that some of them in that school house are still required reading in our elementary schools.

Ol' 967. I had to get a photo with the locomotive.

Yeah, I know. This is your favorite picture.

Inside the Livery Stable there was a set of 2 saddles. Photo opp! Direct quote from Dani, "You look natural sitting in a saddle."

I'm standing next to an extremely large steam tractor. I wish more of the tractor could've been in the picture. But, just to give you an idea of the size of the tractor, I'm standing next to the back tire. The front tire was actually my height.

What can I say...I guess I start to rub off on a few people.
